# Transfer Credit

We build software for the people who run Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) and transfer-credit processes inside colleges, universities, and training organizations. We are not a college ourselves, and we do not award credits. Instead, we give institutions a faster way to process the credit applications their learners already submit.

Our product for this work is **ArchieCPL**, our AI-powered Credit for Prior Learning assessment tool. Below is how ArchieCPL supports transfer-credit pipelines, where it operates, the partners we work with, typical processing timeframes, and how it integrates with systems institutions already use.

## Our Transfer Credit Pipeline

ArchieCPL processes a CPL application through six steps. Every application follows the same workflow:

1. **Resume or transcript upload.** The applicant submits their resume or prior postsecondary transcript into ArchieCPL.
2. **AI evaluation.** Our AI evaluates the applicant’s skills, education, and work experience against the receiving institution’s postsecondary programs and course learning outcomes.
3. **Credit recommendation plus confidence score.** The applicant instantly sees which course credits they may be eligible for, along with a confidence / predictor percentage showing how likely the credit application is to succeed.
4. **Administrator review.** A college administrator meets with the student to review the evidence and approve or reject each recommended credit.
5. **Enrollment.** If credits are approved, the student begins their postsecondary program.
6. **Transcript update.** The awarded course credits are added to the student’s official academic transcript.

The purpose of this pipeline is to take the weeks- or months-long manual CPL assessment work and compress it into a single automated review step that an institution’s staff can confirm.

## Timeframe for Transfer Processing

ArchieCPL is built for near-instant processing from the moment an applicant submits their documents.

- Recommendations to the student are returned instantly after the upload and AI evaluation steps.
- We describe the overall throughput as **50x faster** than traditional CPL processing, completing applications in minutes instead of months.
- Our white paper reports a **95% reduction** in time spent on prior learning assessments per application.
- Institutions using ArchieCPL are able to process **10x more** course-credit applications without increasing headcount.

The final credit-approval step still requires an institution administrator to sign off on the recommendations. ArchieCPL does not bypass that human review; only the assessment and recommendations are automated.

## Articulation Agreements With Partner Colleges

We do not sign articulation agreements on a student’s behalf. Articulation agreements are bilateral agreements between two institutions that define which courses transfer and how.

ArchieCPL is a tool that helps institutions evaluate applications against their own program learning outcomes, regardless of whether a formal articulation agreement exists.

The institutions and organizations we publicly work with on CPL and transfer credit include:

- **Fleming College** — A pilot and production customer running ArchieCPL for accelerated PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition).
- **Vector Institute (Canada)** — ArchieCPL’s AI was built in partnership with the Vector Institute.
- **ONCAT — Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer** — Funded our Fall 2025 international white paper on CPL and consulted internationally with higher-ed institutions and policy leaders during 2024–2025.
- **Province of Ontario** — Provided funding alongside ONCAT for the international CPL research.
- **NGen** — Running our Skills Assessor AQ on the manufacturing Future Ready program. Skills Assessor AQ feeds downstream CPL pipelines.

If you are a postsecondary institution and want to see ArchieCPL applied in a customer environment, the Fleming College accelerated PLAR instance is available.

## Credit Transfer Rules by Country and Region

ArchieCPL uses skill, competency, and credential taxonomies that are shared internationally across postsecondary education, skilled trades, and labor markets. This means the same assessment logic can be applied to applicants whose background comes from outside Canada, as long as the receiving institution has mapped its own programs into ArchieCPL.

Operationally, our terms of service acknowledge that data storage and processing may be subject to regulation in Canada, the United States, or any other jurisdiction where we provide services. ArchieCPL is built to comply with:

- **FERPA** (US student-records privacy)
- **GDPR** (EU personal-data protection)
- **PIPEDA** (Canadian personal-information protection)

We do not publish a country-by-country matrix of which transfer-credit rules ArchieCPL supports. Whether a particular international credential transfers depends on the receiving institution’s own policies and how those policies are configured in our tool.

## Integrations With Existing Systems

ArchieCPL is built to plug into the systems institutions already use. It supports integration with:

- **SIS** (Student Information Systems)
- **CRM** (Customer Relationship Management systems used by admissions)
- **LMS** (Learning Management Systems)

Our objective is for ArchieCPL’s credit-recommendation output to flow into an institution’s existing student record so that awarded credits appear on transcripts without manual re-entry by staff.

## Our Disclaimer on Credit Decisions

We want to be clear about what ArchieCPL does and does not do. Our terms of service explicitly state that KnowMeQ makes no representation, warranty, or guarantee of any kind regarding an individual’s credits for prior learning, potential courses, or any other outcomes in relation to a postsecondary institution or prospective student.

ArchieCPL recommends. The receiving institution decides. We provide the assessment tool; the college awards the credit.

## How to Get Started

If you are a college, university, or training organization looking to set up or speed up a transfer-credit / CPL pipeline, the steps are:

1. Book a free demo with our team.
2. Download the Fall 2025 International White Paper on Credit for Prior Learning (funded by ONCAT and the Province of Ontario) from our product page: https://www.knowmeq.com/archie-cpl
3. Visit the ArchieCPL product page for the current feature list: https://www.knowmeq.com/archie-cpl

If you are a learner and want to see what credits you might be eligible for before applying to a college, contact a participating institution directly. Learners do not buy ArchieCPL from us; their college provides access.
